Girl Circus Team
Our mission is to create theater which is uplifting, non-objectifying, inspires human empowerment, and strengthens a sense of community among performers and audiences through the unique power of circus arts. Founded in 2001, Girl Circus is a women-driven organization presenting at least 3 performances of 1 production per year featuring live, original music and choreography, and high level circus arts. Our professional female circus performers mentor girls ages 5 and up. Girl Circus fosters a long lasting relationship between members, with an emphasis on each generation mentoring the next generation of girls.
Darcy DuRuz
Executive Director
Darcy created Girl Circus in 2001 after witnessing a lack of women representation in circus arts. She made it her mission to create uplifting, non-objectifying, and mentorship based circus shows and summer camps!
Adrienne "A" Wise
Co-Artistic Director
A joined Girl Circus in 2001 as a gymnast. She co-directed many shows with Darcy before stepping into her role as C0-Artistic Director. A is an excellent choreographer and mentor! Catch her in the air doing aerial silks and on stage with the Eugene Corps!
Shireen Press
Co-Artistic Director
Shireen joined the Girl Circus family in 2005. Prior to her role as Co- Artistic Director, Shireen graced the stage as a trapeze artist, stilt walker, juggler, and fire spinner. She is an excellent choreographer and mentor! Catch her backstage directing the flow of show and onstage spinning poi!
Coco Bender
Co-Artistic Director, Music Director, and Administrative Assistant
Coco joined Girl Circus in 2001 as a cow! Through the years she has been on stage kung fu fighting, singing opera, and dancing like a flamingo. When she stopped performing onstage, she joined the Girl Circus Orchestra as the pianist. Catch Coco conducting the band, playing the piano, and singing!
Dave Bender
Composer and Band Member
Dave has composed original music for all twenty-three Girl Circus shows! Catch him playing trumpet in the Girl Circus Orchestra!
